About the Item
Large framed mural fragment by Kevin Paulsen and David Wiggins, from the mid 1990s. Thinned oil on plaster layered over polystyrene, artist made black wood shadow box frame. Original work of art in the style of 19th century itinerant painters such as Rufus Porter and Moses Eaton. Naive artists of the 19th century painted murals in homes, and also portraits, signs and decorations in an almost dreamlike style. Contemporary folk artists, Paulsen and Wiggins, have revived this style, and here have created a still life inspired by 19th century hand-painted theorems. Signs of age and wear have been recreated by the artists, giving the surface a warm, time-worn patina.
