Vintage Photograph Martha Graham Letter to the World by Barbara Morgan

About the Item

An iconic black and white photography by Barbara Morgan (American, 1900-1992) of "Martha Graham, Letter to the World". The photo was originally taken in 1940 and the one on offer was a gelatin silver vintage edition printed in 1972. It was signed and titled on the lower margin by the artist. On the mount recto, it was again signed, titled, stamped, and inscribed. The size of the image is 10.25" x 13.25". It is displayed in a silver leaf wood frame with black linen mat under museum quality UV glass. The collaboration between photographer Barbara Morgan and Marta Graham, the leading modern dancer started in 1935 during the Great Depression in New York City. This collaboration would last the next six decades. The "kick" was perhaps one of the most iconic photographs that captured a rapturous moment and defined both artist's aesthetics at its pinnacle.
