1960's London Travel Poster by Studio Seven
About the Item
This original 1960's English small panel poster by Studio Seven is advertising Express Road Services to London. A rare poster, it would have been displayed in travel offices or in buses and coaches serving routes around the UK. Coach companies had a captive market before the advent of mass car ownership and these small travel posters were a useful form of advertising.
The poster colourfully illustrates many London landmarks including the Tower of London, Trafalgar Square, Tower Bridge, St Paul's Cathedral, a tugboat on the river Thames and a red route-master bus.
This would have been a generic poster used by many of the local bus operators run by The Tilling Group. The company started in 1847 and became a major operator. The group was nationalised in 1948 and later absorbed into the British Transport Commission.
Studio Seven produced some stunning posters for both rail and coach companies in the 1950's and 1960's.
The poster is in good condition and is linen backed. This is a conservation process allowing for ease of handling and framing. The poster will be sent rolled in a sturdy tube. Free postage.
