Richard Lindner Signed “Exit” Limited Edition Abstract Lithograph

About the Item

An abstract lithograph titled "Exit" by the German-American artist Richard Lindner (1901-1978). In this print, two figures are in profile, facing inward. The top figure has orange hair with a mustache, while the lower figure has a purple bob and bright pink lips. The background is blue, brown, gray, and yellow. Signed to the lower right corner, this work is numbered to the left "39/100." Displayed in a black frame with a white mat. Richard Lindner was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1901. Lindner studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule (Arts and Crafts School), now the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg in Germany. He worked as an art director until the outbreak of World War II, when he was forced to flee to Paris. In 1941, Lindner moved to the United States and worked in New York City as an illustrator. In New York, he worked with artists and German emigrants such as Albert Einstein, Marlene Dietrich, and Saul Steinberg. In 1952, Lindner started teaching at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn. In 1965, he became a professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, Germany. His paintings often used the sexual symbolism of advertising and investigated gender roles.
