William Curtis began publication of the Botanical Magazine in February 1787 and continued almost without interruption for 160 years. They remain in a nearly pristine overall condition. The same prints are carried in the permanent collections of the Winterthur Museum, the British Museum of Art and the National Galleries of Scotland; the original painting for the print with the bird's nest is also held in the permanent collection of the National Galleries of Scotland. Pichler's representation of van Huysum's iconic work was cherished for the exquisite tones and richly textured surfaces.
