1780's Aubusson Verdure Tapestry
About the Item
This particular tapestry is a Verdure Aubusson circa 1780 / 1790. ‘Verdure’ (foliage) tapestries were woven throughout the 17th and 18th Centuries, featuring wooded landscapes, reflecting the interest in botanical themes during this period.
Interestingly, this would have been a section of a much larger tapestry probably divided into 4 more practical pieces around 1910-1920. The reverse side is also fascinating. Giving clues to how it would have been hand stitched by candle light 250 years ago.
An amazingly rare and beautiful piece.
Professionally cleaned in Saint-Étienne. Structurally strong with no moth damage. There are three small holes as indicated in the photos. Very good condition for something of this age. Ready to be hung via rings along the top.
