18th Century Austrian Carved and Chalkpaint Wood Alter Sticks with Circular Tops

About the Item

Set of three antique Austrian 18th century chalk painted candlesticks. A pair and a taller one. Each candlestick or altar stick is slightly different as they are hand carved. The tall one measures approx. 21 5/8" high and 4 1/2" by 4 1/2" wide at the base. The pair of smaller ones measures approx. 18 1/3" high each and 3 1/2" by 3 1/2" at the base. Bought at an estate sale in Vienna, Austria. Some paint losses, missing parts and varying degrees of damage like seen in the pictures, but this gives these pieces a very distressed chic style.

When a Cardinal dies, his galero is hung from the ceiling of the cathedral. The three pieces were probably part of an antique cathedral.
