"Falling Satyr, " Superb Art Deco Panel with Male Nude by WPA Sculptor

About the Item

Carved from a "found" panel of distressed walnut, this superb bas relief sculptural panel of a falling satyr, his legs and arms akimbo, was carved by Don Griffith, a WPA artist in Colorado. Dated 1933, in the heart of the Art Deco era, the panel depicts the nude male figure dropping through a rocky chasm with angled edges that have a craggy, stylized profile.
