About the Item
Rare circa 1929 sterling silver cocktail set designed by Erik Magnussen for Gorham of Providence, RI, the design called 'Modern American', comprising a cocktail shaker and twelve (12) cocktail cups. Looking at the stem cocktail cup, one realizes that 'Magnussen's inspiration is from Manhattan's iconic setback skyscrapers for the foot of his sterling martini glass-shaped cocktail cups. Magnussen used linear chasing in horizontal and vertical patterns for decoration. The chasing on the Modern American cocktail shaker echoed that of the cocktail cups but the base of the shaker is flat, not stepped.' Total weightable silver 101 oz. Dimensions cocktail shaker 7 inches wide over spout and handle by 12 inches high. Bold deco 'R.M.S.' monogram on shaker and each cup. Shaker and cups marked as illustrated in photos. Shakeris large and holds 7 cups liquid.
