Victorian Green Enamelled Serpent Bangle
About the Item
A Victorian green enamelled serpent bangle, with diamond-set head, nose and brows and cabochon ruby eyes, the tapered diamond encrusted body hinged in five places to form a wrap-around bangle, the diamonds estimated to weigh 4cts in total, circa 1850, measuring approximately 6.5 x 1.9 cm, gross weight 44.4 grams.
This attractive Victorian green enamelled serpent bangle comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. The motif of the serpent became popular in the Victoria era after Prince Albert gifted a serpent ring to Victoria upon their engagement. For Queen Victoria the snake symbolised eternal love. The hinges in the metal work allow for the bangle to be coiled around a wrist and would look wonderful at a formal event.
This antique bracelet is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold and silver.
