Schiaparelli Haute Couture Aqua and Enamel Cuff, 1930's
About the Item
Schiaparelli Haute Couture Cuff from the late 1930s of bezel set open back oval "aquamarines" set against a contrasting ground of black enamel. Reminiscent of jeweled cuffs made in the period for her rival Coco Chanel, this is a quieter, more streamlined version falling more in the modernist vein than the roccoco.
Elsa was a strong proponent of the Art Deco taste earlier in the decade with her famed modernist trompe l'oiel sweaters. This elegant design harkens back to the severity of that aesthetic.
As a customer of Herz Belperron one can see the influence of those fine jewelers in her faux choices.
Excellent condition. Made in France. 2 1/8" width.
