About the Item

This clip brooch dates to the years around 1930 and embodies the modern spirit of the times par excellence. Gleaming diamonds and white platinum are united in an abstract triangular shape with a deep green emerald at its centre. The emerald is cut in a faceted drop shape that offsets the light most effectively; the precious stone almost seems as if lit by an inner glow. South America has always been an important source of emeralds, and the deep green colour reminds us of the lush vegetation of its humid rain forests. Exquisite dress clips were typical jewels of the 1930s. Instead of pin fastenings, they were fitted with a clip, as is this one. Identical pairs could be worn on both sides of the neckline, the lapel or in the centre of a belt. This singular one can be worn in the middle of the neckline, clipped to a scarf or perhaps a sturdy chain as a necklace – its clip fastening allows it to be worn creatively. Even back in the 1930s, in the Art Déco era, dress clips were a favoured way for women to escape rigid conventions and incorporate modern jewellery into their everyday lives.
