French Art Deco Turquoise Enamel Gold Brooch
About the Item
A very smart Art Deco brooch designed as a rectangular plaque of gold with truncated corners giving an octagonal outline, highlighted to the corners with arcs of green enamel and set with a large cabochon of turquoise.
The turquoise cabochon is banded throughout with its original ironstone matrix, giving a textured appearance to the stone and contrasting beautifully with the clean surface of the gold ground. It is held in place by double claws which emphasis the Art Deco feel of this piece.
The vivid green enamel arch motifs to the corners of this brooch compliment the greenish-blue colour of the turquoise. The turquoise measures 20.5mm x 14.6mm x 8mm.
The brooch measures 4cm by 2.6cm and weighs 15.93g. It is stamped with the eagle’s head for 18 carat gold and French manufacture. There is an unintelligible signature to the brooch mount.
