Victorian Gold Snake Stick-Pin
About the Item
A Victorian snake gold stick-pin, the old European-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.3 carats surrounded by a coiled gold snake with textured finish, all in 18ct gold, to yellow gold stick pin, circa 1880, the jewelled part measuring 2.2cm long, the pin measuring 7.8cm long, gross weight 5.6 grams.
This Victorian pin is in very good condition. With slight abrasion to the diamonds girdle, consistent with age. Unmarked tested as 18ct gold.
This superb Victorian stick pin dates to 1880 and comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the mid to late Victorian era, snake motifs were popular in jewellery as a symbol for everlasting love. This wonderful stick-pin features a startlingly realistic gold snake curled around a dazzling third of a carat diamond. The serpent’s scales have been meticulously rendered giving this piece a sense of detail and intricacy. This antique stick-pin look handsome in the lapel of a wool jacket.
