Vintage 1960s Austrian 14K Gold Carved Rock Crystal & Diamond Orchid Brooch
About the Item
A vintage rock crystal, diamond, and white gold brooch, comprising an orchid flower carved from rock crystal, and five round brilliant cut diamonds, set in 14 karat white gold.
This show-stopping brooch is formed as an orchid flower, expertly carved from pieces of rock crystal. The carving is extremely detailed, creating a lifelike orchid, set to the centre with diamond set ‘stamen’. The round brilliant cut diamonds are held within claw settings and are held aloft on white gold posts. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another. The rock crystal has a frosted finish, and is translucent, giving the brooch an almost ethereal quality. The brooch is complete with white gold safety catch and pin. The brooch is in good condition, with a small crack to the back of one of the petals, where it is held within the setting (though this should not cause any stability issues). Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
Orchids are symbolic of many things, including fertility, beauty, rarity, and refinement.
The brooch measures 72mm high, 70.5mm wide, and is 23mm deep (excluding brooch fittings).
