Mellerio dits Meller Cufflinks in 18 Karat Yellow Gold
About the Item
A unique and highly collectible pair of cufflinks commissioned from Mellerio dits Meller, founded in 1613, jeweler to Queen Marie de Medici, and said to be the oldest family business in Europe.
These cufflinks feature an equestrian motif - riding bits - and fit around the outside of the shirt cuff. Unlike similar designs, these are modestly sized and suitable for both men and women.
The cufflinks feature an astonishing number of marks, including MELLERIO DITS MELLER, multiple French eagle's head assay marks (indicating solid, 18K gold), a serial number, workshop marks, dates (13.4.33, 11.10.37, 21.9.46), miscellaneous numerals, and finally, a beautiful yet - to us at least - illegible word or name.
Shaped as isosceles triangles, they measure 20.4mm by 20.4mm by 18mm. Together they weigh 11.32 grams.
