Victorian Sterling Silver Prince Albert Chain
About the Item
Victorian Prince Albert Chain in Sterling has interesting links that vary in size and direction. There are wiggly square links, alternating horizontal and vertical links, and large rectangular ridged links with a t bar added. Prince Albert chains were worn by men to hold their watches close to their vests. The t bar would slip into the button hole while the watch and other end would sit in the waistcoat pocket. They became extremely popular when Charles 11 introduced the wearing of a waistcoat.
Now they are worn by women as necklaces or bracelets and men or women as watch chains. This example is for a small neck as it measures 15 inches in length. Condition perfect. All original. English origin
