19th Century Archaeological Revival Gold Necklace

About the Item

A 19th century archaeological revival gold necklace, consisting of a mesh chain 5mm wide, suspending one-hundred-and-four cone-shaped drops each measuring approximately 11mm, all to a box clasp, bearing French hallmarks circa 1870, measuring approximately 40.5 x 1.7cm, gross weight 35.7 grams, accompanied by original fitted case. This necklace is in fine condition. A handsome Etruscan revival necklace. This necklace features a mesh chain in rich yellow gold from which hangs small and delicate cone or amphora shaped drops. Jewellery inspired by the ancient Etruscan people became popular in the mid to late nineteenth century as archaeological discoveries in Italy resulted in exhibitions of ancient jewellery. This necklace comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and perfectly represents the Etruscan revival style. Etruscan revival jewellery can frequently be seen on red carpets: Anne Hathaway wore a necklace similar to this with a pair of amphora earrings at a 2019 film premiere, and Nicole Kidman wore a pair of Etruscan revival earrings to the 2017 Cannes film festival. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
