Antique Chinese Jade & Tourmaline Gilt Necklace Art Nouveau
About the Item
Created just after the turn of the century (circa 1917), this gilt silver jadeite and tourmaline drop necklace was created in China for the export market. Intricately detailed wirework that today would be nearly impossible to create by hand was executed with consummate skill by the early twentieth-century jeweler who created this piece. Even the back is strikingly beautiful. Elaborate wirework balls are stationed along the chain together with white glass beads.
The necklace measures 18.5 inches in length. The jade and tourmaline drop hangs an additional 2 ¾ inches.
The carved and pierced jadeite jade plaque is a mottled green and the two pink tourmaline drops that are suspended from the jade are without chips are cracks. Minor losses to the wirework topping each tourmaline gem do not mitigate the beauty of this unusual, highly collectible piece of Chinese art and jewelry history.
This pendant ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is natural and untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
