18 Karat French Hunting Fob, circa 1890
About the Item
We love this 18K exceptional hunting fob with a working hinged locket and a jasper and agate base. " Punto di Caccia" in Italian is engraved on one lozenge, translating to "hunting spot", referring to a cottage or house. Rendez Vous de chasse means “reserved for the hunt". The hunting dog stands faithfully to one side along with the horn, and rifle & hunting pouch, also known as a bullet pouch, with hip flask on other side. All the essentials needed for a fruitful hunting expedition are at the ready. The fob has a very small French eagle's head on the round ring structure that sits beneath the "Rendez Vous de Chasse" lozenge.
The hinged container opens and securely holds any number of things- snuff, pills, etc., and is approximately 1/8 inch deep on the inside. The fob is in perfect condition.
