Ancient Greek 5th Century BC Corinth Pegasus Stater 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
An authentic Corinthian silver "stater" coin from 375-300 BC is showcased in a Steven Battelle designed double hammer texture bezel with similarly accented bail. This image of Pegasus struck on these coins was known throughout the ancient world. The opposite side of the coin features Athena in a Corinthian helmet. Pegasus was a winged horse who was caught by the Greek hero Bellerophon with the help of Athena and Poseidon. Pegasus allowed Bellerophon to ride him in order to defeat the monstrous Chimera, which led to many other exploits. Bellerophon later fell from the winged horse's back while trying to reach Mount Olympus. After that failed attempt, Zeus transformed Pegasus into the constellation seen in the night sky. This pendant comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The 18 or 20 inch handmade hammered 18K chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.

He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
