"Chinese Lantern" Tahitian Pearl Tassel Fob in 14k & 18k Gold with Chain
About the Item
This funky, one-of-a-kind pendant features an unusual and very baroque green Tahitian pearl.
Eytan Brandes played up the pearl's unique silhouette with vintage components -- rose gold caps and a yellow gold tassel -- and created a gorgeous little Chinese lantern to light up your décolletage!
The pearl is from our trusted pearl dealer, George Hajjar of Seven Seas Pearls with offices in downtown Los Angeles, Germany and Japan. Mr. Hajjar buys direct from the pearl farmers of Tahiti so we always know we're getting the real thing. This real thing is very large -- 17mm (18mm long) and has exceptional, rich green color. The top half is perfect, smooth, lustrous and shimmery with aubergine overtones. The bottom half -- a stack of ridges with a couple of pits and a blob of bumps -- appears to be singing from a different hymnbook, and we love it!
The little openwork caps are 18 karat rose gold and came from a rather silly bead bracelet a customer picked up in Turkey in the 1980s.
The tassel is 14 karat yellow gold -- one of several vintage tassels Eytan has accumulated from various sources over the years; we think this one probably dates from the 1940s or 1950s.
The bale is simple 18 karat hand-pulled wire made in the shop from recycled gold. It's roomy enough (about 5mm x 5.5mm inside) to accommodate most chain hardware.
The removable chain is a 14 karat Italian square foxtail to match the tassel chains. It's 1.4mm thick and 17" long. (As with most of our pendants, if you would prefer a different chain or no chain at all, just let us know and we'll give you options and adjusted pricing.)
