About the Item

This one-of-a-kind pendant by Eytan Brandes features a huge Tahitian black pearl set in an 18 karat yellow gold bezel burnished with pale brown diamonds. Topping the bezel is a vintage sterling silver thimble featuring two pairs of loving swans forever swimming in circles). The pearl is from our pearl dealer, George Hajjar of Seven Seas Pearls in downtown Los Angeles. Mr. Hajjar deals only with , Tahitian, Australian (i.e., South Sea) and Japanese akoya pearls -- no fresh water, and no Chinese saltwater. This pearl has some pits and lines on one side (we oriented the best part of the thimble and the best part of the pearl toward the front, of course), and its shape is a good deal off-round, but it has gorgeous luster, rich dark silvery black and green color, and it is impressively, undeniably large. Eytan made the bezel in 18 karat yellow gold, specifically for this pearl, then set it with ten pale brown natural, earth-mined and untreated full cut diamonds ranging in size from 1.7mm to 2.4mm for a total diamond weight of 0.38 carats. The vintage thimble is marked "925" for sterling silver but doesn't offer up any more clues as to its origins. We just liked the simple, repeating design and the nice use of oxidation. The top ring and loop are also 18 karat gold. The top loop is nice and roomy - about 6mm x 8mm. This is a heavy pendant and it looks best with heavy chains, so a small bale just wouldn't cut it. Included with the pendant is a 17" string of smooth round 4mm black jade beads, fully knotted like pearls but with mustard-colored silk for a bit of interesting contrast. We also threw in a few moss agate beads because, well, because we felt like it. The closure is a vintage 14 karat gold bayonet clasp with a figure 8 safety catch. NOTE: As with just about all of our pendants, the chain is included in the price, but entirely optional; if you'd like just the pendant alone, or a different length of black jade chain, or a different type of chain altogether, just let us know and we'll give you options and adjusted pricing.
