GeorgIan Garnet Flat Cut Snowflake/Cross Pendant or Brooch

About the Item

In natural light, there is a flash of orange in the red of this Georgian Flat Cut garnet snowflake pendant. The color of Georgian garnets are unique to the era as there was no light available other than sunshine and candle, the gems are set in a closed back setting with a sliver of foil between the metal and the stone. The technique both catches and reflects the color of the stone. The bale for a ribbon or chain is garnet with tiny vertical gold beading imitating the very beautiful beading of the stone settings. Mixed garnets both teardrop and round vary in size. A pin with an original stem and triangle clasp are on the reverse to give you a choice to wear it as a brooch when you remove the bale. Strong set in bright 10 Kt gold that does not detract but adds beauty to the stones and is stronger than gold of higher karat. Length 2 inches Width 1 1/2 inches Weight 4.7 grams like a snowflake
