About the Item

Deep emerald green with a glossy, entirely hand-polished shine, this gorgeous 19th century - early 20th century- carved jadeite jade stone is set into a later, exceedingly simple handmade 14K yellow gold mounting that includes four strong prongs to hold the stone securely in place, a bail large enough to accommodate chains of many sizes and a .25 carat brilliant white diamond (H/I) with a clarity of approximately SI2. The diamond displays brilliant fire. Prior to the 1950s, jade was polished without the use of electricity or modern polishing compounds like diamond paste. As a result, older jade that with its original polish has a unique, almost satin finish. And if you want the jade to have a harder shine, you can wax it. Waxing isn't permanent, but it will give the jade a high-gloss finish until the wax wears away. Or, you can enjoy the gorgeous old-school polish just exactly as it is. The jade carving seems to depict a minimalist, impressionistic interpretation of a small bird on the right, long-stemmed leaves on the left. At the bottom of the jade, you can see a smattering of earth-toned mineral coloring. Even though the jade is opaque, it still somehow -in that magical way jade has- of interacting with light to beautiful effect. Even in low, soft light, the gem whispers its green into the air. The jade itself measures 22.4mm x 16.26mm x 7.42mm. The overall dimensions including the bail are 35.59mm x 16.82. The pendant ships with the chain pictured (also 14K yellow gold) and a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the jade is untreated jadeite from Burma (Myanmar).
