Victorian Gold Buckle Ring

About the Item

A solid, warm tone, substantial 11.9 gram 15 Kt gold buckle ring, like all the buckle motif bracelets of the Victorian era symbolized two people united, joined together as one. The ring is engraved with roses, the flower of love, friendship and passion. In the language of flowers Victorians knew this meaning as well as they did the English language. There are a few ivy leaves here and there. They symbolize clinging together as does the wild ivy. It is a lovely friendship ring, love gift or wedding band. This ring was well loved. The engraving is clear and crisp. Beautiful patina . Size 8. It should not be sized.

In striking contrast, this Mizpah ring was created c. 1870 in 18 Kt gold. In striking contrast with no wear, the word Mispah is raised in gold letters on a darker gold background. The borders are scalloped. A gold daisy is at the middle of the word. Mizpah is from the Hebrew bible meaning watchtower. The loose translation is May God Watch over you while we are apart. The word connotes a deep emotional relationship between two people. The added sentiment of the daisy is "think of me" which all Victorians recognized from the language of flowers. A beautiful ring of sentient and dedication. A perfect wedding band...
