Ancient Greek 4th Century BC Lion Coin 18K Gold Ring
About the Item
An authentic ancient Greek silver hemidrachm coin from the Greek colony of Cherronesos 450-300 BC depicting a lion looking back over his shoulder is set in this classic Steven Battelle "split-spiral with jawan" ancient-inspired ring design. The coastal areas of Turkey were colonized by the Greeks in the 7th century BC. Cherronesos is thought to have been located in what is now the Gallipoli peninsula of Turkey. These coins were used throughout the Black Sea region in ancient times. The lion was not native in Greece, but was known there as a symbol of power and majesty.
The current size is 6.5. This ring is resizable. It is sent with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
