C1880 15K Egliomese Reverse Painted Ring on Glass of Silhouette of a Tree

About the Item

Our polished egliomese (reverse painted on glass) 15K ring backed in gold has a lovely painted silhouette of a solid looking tree in winter hibernation. The curved gold back molds to the shape of the finger and sits on the finger comfortably. Those Victorians were quite clever to think of ergonomic issues 100 years ahead of their time! The band opens to a V shape on each side that appears to be grasping the head of the ring. The detail of the individual branches of a tree firmly rooted in a bed of soil are crisp and clear. This ring is 17x 11.4mm and sits about 3.6 mm off the finger. It is 5/8 long and almost ½ inch wide. The size is 6.25 US. Weight: 3.0 Grams A wonderful ring for your naturalist, horticulturalist, arborist significant other, or anyone with a passion for trees and the natural world.

Jet formed the material for lightweight, striking, black jewelry forms which were perfect to meet the unending demand for mourning jewelry during the Victorian era. Queen Victoria's long, extended period of mourning for her late husband Albert inspired the demand. Men and women both were active in the production of Jet jewelry...
