About the Item
The “Paua” is a caviar spoon totally unique and completely handcrafted and created by Paul Amey. This caviar spoon with stylized “Leaf and Vine” creating the handle, one vine is made from 9ct yellow gold and the other vine and leaf are made from tarnish resistant sterling silver with the silver vine ending with a natural keshi pearl.
The spoon bowl is hand-carved by Paul Amey in mother of pearl and New Zealand paua shell, with the paua shell being inlaid into the mother of pearl. There are various diamonds inlaid into the mother of pearl bowl, set in 18K yellow gold, and in the handle design.
The “Paua” spoon is made from 9K yellow gold (4.6 grams), sterling silver (2.8 grams), 18K yellow gold (1 gram) and 8 diamonds (equalling 0.36Cts). The spoon was crafted with over 30 hours of labour.
The diamonds displayed throughout the spoon are a 20pt, a 5pt, a 3pt, 3 x 2pt and 2 x 1pt, all diamonds are natural round brilliant white E SI.
The “Spider Leaf” rest is made from natural ebony, 9K yellow gold, with a spider hand-carved by Paul Amey in 9ct yellow gold, the spider is protecting a 3pt round brilliant white E SI diamond. The feet on the rest are made from sterling silver. The rest was crafted with over 12 hours of labour.
The “Spider Leaf” rest is made from natural ebony, 9K yellow gold (3 grams), sterling silver (2 grams) and a 0.03pt natural round brilliant white E SI diamond.
The "Paua" spoon and “Spider Leaf” rest was designed and hand crafted by multi award-winning jeweler Paul Amey in Australia and is stamped with his registered makers mark and precious metal marks. Paul completed the spoon in March 2023 with over 42 hours of labour. All components are masterfully handcrafted by Paul Amey with no casting or 3D imaging used. Diamond and stone settings were all carried out by Paul Amey.

Paul Amey Jeweller
PAUL AMEY is an ARTIST, DESIGNER, MASTER GOLDSMITH and a fellow of the Gold & Silversmiths Guild of Australia. Paul Amey was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia with one grandfather a watchmaker, the other a jeweller. Jewellery was obviously in his blood! Paul has been a designer and manufacturing jeweller for over 50 years and is well renowned for his work in creating and producing beautiful high-quality jewellery with a dramatic flair completely by hand. Paul is still passionate about designing and producing special pieces. “I have fun with jewellery and so should customers - I give people choices they don’t get from other jewellers.” Paul has seen a great number of design changes and influences come and go, but he says “the fundamentals have always remained the same skilful design, excellent craftsmanship and an attention to detail.” Like the masters of old, using time-honoured techniques, he is creating modern masterpieces. “Each custom piece is crafted completely by hand, no computers, no mass production. My pieces are absolute original works of art, whether they be made from silver, gold or platinum.” Paul has a strong desire and flair for dramatic pieces, an early example being the making of the perpetual Western Australian Gold Swan Award.
