English Arts and Crafts Silver Bowl by Albert Edward Jones
About the Item
A small, hand-wrought, sterling silver, Arts & Crafts era bowl by English silversmith Albert Edward Jones (1878-1954). The bowl which is minimal in its decoration sits atop of three sterling silver ball feet and features a rim of silver buttons. The bowl was retailed by Payne & Son in their 131 High Street, Oxford shop where the family businesses’ 8th generation are still trading today. The piece is hallmarked to the top rim for manufacture in Birmingham in 1908 and marked to the underside 'PAYNE OXFORD'. A gorgeous example of English Arts & Crafts silver.

The piece consists of a large piece of carved fluorite and a carved amethyst finial which has all been set in sterling silver. The mount for these carved stones is elaborate with a floral motif to the foot and decorative engraved borders on each rim of the piece. The internal sterling silver 'well' is removable for cleaning and polishing. The inkwell is in lovely condition, however appears to have some signs of old stabilisation to the fluorite which has slightly yellowed over time.
