Candice was deeply inspired after a visit to Yellowstone National Park. The central landscape image was created using a photographic transfer method while the landscapes on either side were created with paint applications. "The abstracted compositional areas serve as windows or doors to memories, to secrets, to hidden worlds," Candice says.

Janet says this painting is based on a detail of a detail of a much larger painting of a river in the Netherlands. A quiet river meanders through a dense green landscape. Simplified palette of greens and blues set the mood of this early evening scene. Great detail suggested with an economy of color and brushwork.
About the Artist
Janet Dyer doesn’t like to spend too much time talking about her art, as she’d rather be creating it. She doesn’t have an artist statement, the traditional statement of purpose crafted by visual artists to explain their method. On becoming an artist, Janet simply states, “I picked up some crayons and pencils and brushes and kept using them.” She believes the process of creating art is equal in importance to the final product. The artist enjoys relinquishing control of her paintings to find delightful surprises in her so-called “mistakes.” Janet's expressively gestural yet bucolic landscapes are a testament to the success of her method.

A cove near Teresa's home at sunset. The light hits the rocks at just the right angle and glows. Thick, lyrical brushstrokes in a rainbow of colors creates liveliness in the scene.
About the Artist
Teresa Smith captures the soul of the Canadian landscape in her contemplative oil paintings. Teresa gathers impressions of the land around her remote island home on horseback rides accompanied by her Irish wolfhound. Her works capture the light coming through the trees, a richness of color, and the interconnectedness of nature. Her subjects emerge through lyrical brushwork, sometimes with light streaming as if through a stained glass window. Her major influences are Georgia O’Keeffe, Emily Carr, and the Canadian Group of Seven, the latter of whom pioneered a distinctive style defined by a direct connection with nature. In addition to painting, Teresa is a master gardener, and she grows food year-round in her garden and volunteers in the community to educate and diagnose plant problems. She works from her studio on the top floor of a barn overlooking the pond and trees, where deer walk by and ducks swim. According to Teresa, "much of today’s art is based on concept. That is, the artist has an idea, then uses their art to educate and inform. I do contemplative painting, which is different. For me, it is allowing the painting to unfold in a contemplative or meditative way."

"The promise of a new day, and the beauty of sun passing through early mists are the hallmark of this work," says Kent. "Glazes of Sap Green, and scumblings of Titanium White and Cadmium Yellow help make the warmth of the sun as it burns off the early fog."
About the Artist
There are more places Kent Sullivan would like to paint than he ever will be able. Employing many of the Hudson River School methods in his landscapes, Kent captures the ephemeral interactions of clouds, sun and earth with his delicate use of color and gesture. His work is published in two prominent books: "Art of the National Parks" and "Picturing Florida." He has lectured at museums and been sought after by many large corporations. “Several years ago I had the incredible fortune of being part of the NASA art program. Five paintings are now part of the Smithsonian Collection. At one gathering at the Kennedy Space Center, Leonard Nimoy came up and asked me for my autograph!”

Bight, midday light on a giant outcropping in Malibu, California. Strong shades of purple, orange and green mix together in the rock and stand against the delicate blue sky. Thick textured adds weight and presence to the landmass. Suren travels extensively, seeking out unique compositions in the neighborhoods, architecture and nature he encounters. For Suren, it is important for him to spend time in these places to witness daily life and take note of all of the individual elements.
About the Artist
Suren is an impressionist painter eloquently capturing nature, landscapes, and cityscapes in paint. His body of work reflects several different stylistic approaches. Suren’s scenes in oil are inspired by Impressionist masters Monet and Van Gogh, while his watercolor series of flowers and birds are influenced by Eastern styles of painting and the colors of the Middle Eastern environment. Suren believes his role as an artist is to remind viewers that we all are part of the same natural universe.

A panoramic landscape of Montegabbro, a tiny medieval village in the heart of Tuscany. We stayed here four years ago and loved it so much we will be returning this fall, says Mandy Main. In the foreground, the ochre and sienna toned field leads the eye into the painting. The green countryside and distant violet hills are loosely rendered, mostly using a palette knife. Shafts of light at the horizon lead the eye up to the dramatic warm clouds sweeping across the pale periwinkle blue sky. An iconic Tuscan palette. The edges of the gallery wrapped canvas are painted a dark espresso color.
About the Artist
Mandy Main is an art historian and landscape painter based in the Southern California desert. She has long been passionate about 19th Century American landscape paintings, which has been influential in her artistic practice. Mandy works in series, generally three paintings at a time. Her process begins with a vision of a place she has been, but she takes creative liberties with the aesthetic details. The artist is captivated by light and shadow, and strives to instill her work with moody drama through the representation of these elements. Using layers of paint and glazes, Mandy achieves mesmerizing atmospheric depth, encouraging the viewer to gaze and be still.

Distant view of Mount Baker in Washington state through a stand of fir trees. Sun shimmers off of the lake in the middle ground. "Color is probably my most important consideration when making a painting," explains Teresa. "I contrast texture - thin wash next to impasto, for example. I work the shapes as if they are puzzle pieces. I use thin glazes to add luminosity and create colors that are unique and luscious, then add thick brush marks as contrast."

The bison and the beetle have a prehistoric elegance about them that I thought would compliment each other perfectly. Symbolically, both represent life and mortality, which has been on my mind lately. To Native Americans, bison are symbolic of sacred life and abundance. And in ancient greek mythology the beetle became revered as a symbol of rebirth and immortality -- its daily journey across the sky became an allegory of human life. The Wallpaper collection is a juxtaposition of masculine meets feminine. I wanted to create a unique series that stands apart from traditional nature paintings, where the wild and somewhat prehistoric aspects of my animals featured contrast against their delicate backdrops. In addition to this, many of my paintings are created with a little bit of underlying symbolism usually sparked from a world event or life moment that I am experiencing. I concentrate on this theme as a therapeutic mantra throughout the creation of the painting. For each painting, different techniques and layers of design are implemented when creating the wall paper effect. To keep the patterns consistent I create a stencil to outline the shapes of my hummingbirds, bugs and fish, and then I hand paint each shape individually. In the areas where I wanted a little more chaos, I would forgo the stencil and eyeball each design. My animals are always painted first, and then I layout the design around them.
