Exquisitely hand-crafted in Continental Europe around the 18th century, judging by the quality of work this most impressive example was likely commissioned by an important Roman Catholic church as a main altarpiece / altar figure.
The rare one-of-a-kind ecclesiastical work, circa 1750, hand carved from a single large log, with exceptionally fine detailing throughout, gessoed, polychrome decorated, and richly gilded, modeled as standing Jesus figure with sculpted draped garbs, carrying a superbly textured lamb over His shoulders, partial hollowed open verso, rising on plinth base.

Although the Rococo in France (where the style originated) lasted from roughly 1725 to 1760, other countries in Europe produced period art and furniture until the late 18th century. One such country was Italy and in particular, Venice, where this unusual carved walnut centerpiece was hand-carved, circa 1780. A large shell-form bowl with volute leaf embellishments is being held by three putti emerging from an undulating base. The wave pattern is reminiscent of a foaming sea, further indicated by the stylized dolphin tails emerging from the spray. All of the tails are textured with a lozenge-patterned background, protruding as high-relief elements. On the underside, the scalloped tips of the water swing down in three areas, forming well-disguised feet. Hand-woven in Brussels, circa 1650, this wool and silk tapestry depicts a church scene with six clergymen at an altar. After roughly 375 years, the colors are still vibrant, highlighted by fabrics of blue that punctuate the predominately gold, cream, and brown fibers of the textile.
Two young bishops, possibly receiving their consecration, kneel on the steps of the altar, dressed in a cassock beneath a chimere, with one holding a thurible and the other a biretta. A third bishop stands in front of them, as two elder clergymen look on from the right of the altar. The older of the two holds a crozier and a biretta with arms extended from beneath a luxurious blue and gold ferraiolo. On the opposite side of the altar is the sixth and final bishop, who is wearing his biretta and holding a mitre. The luxurious altar is adorned with tall gilt candlesticks...

A splendid example of a 18th Century Georgian oak cupboard from around 1760. The exterior shell is genuine and untouched, with the interior have some modifications and improvements added through the years. The right side door opens to a compartment with hanging pegs and the bottom is open to a short drawer. The left hand side has the same pegging with later added shelving and brass latch. The bottom is closed with a full drawer. Cupboard does have a key. The coloring is absolutely beautiful.
Provenance: The Fulwood Collection
The Fulwood Collection comes from a Grade II listed rectory in the North of England. Formerly the childhood home of Sir Douglas Bader. The rectory was acquired by the late owner approximately 15 years ago. The house was formerly split into two separate houses, and with care he lovingly refurbished it back into a single house and refurnished in a blend of the Grand Tour style with Welsh and English provincial tastes. This property contained fine furniture, works of art, paintings, ceramics and other miscellaneous items some of which were purchased by “The Englishman’s Antiques”

An absolutely stunning example of an early oak Wainscot chair, the carved foliate and scroll top rail above a paneled back, centered with an incised lozenge, initialed and dated ‘P D 1539’, over the board seat upon turned baluster front legs and plain rear legs united by peripheral cross stretchers. We don't know the relevance of the date seeing the chair was probably made in the later part of the 16th century. It is interesting to note that King Henry VIII was on the throne during the date on this chair.
