Eva Menz for Atelier001
Eva Menz for Atelier001 is a collection of graceful lighting pieces from the London-based studio of illumination master Eva Menz. The sleek works call to mind Scandinavian modern design, sometimes with understated Art Deco silhouettes. Menz creates every type of lighting fixture for the modern home, including chandeliers, sconces, table lamps and floor lamps.
Menz was born and raised in Munich. In the 2000s, she moved to the United Kingdom and studied product design at Central Saint Martins, part of the University of the Arts London. At Saint Martins, she experimented with melding art and design techniques. Upon graduating, Menz showcased and sold two chandeliers at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City.
She soon began receiving commissions to design architectural lighting installations — one as large as 36 feet. Over the next two decades, Menz worked with private clients all around the world. Among them were big-name designers like Timothy Godbold, Jeremiah Brent and David Rockwell. However, she recognized that her monumental lighting creations aren't suitable for the average home. In 2019, Menz established Atelier001 for home and business lighting on a smaller, everyday scale.
"Atelier001 offers wider access to some beautifully made pieces," Menz told Introspective magazine. "I think of it as mass production with more of an individual touch." The brand’s metal fixtures feature warm brass finishes and a sculptural appeal. Menz always obscures the light source, making the piece all about its sculptural structure and the subtle illumination it casts.
Although the Atelier001 brand is more accessible and made for a wider audience, every fixture is crafted and finished entirely by hand at Menz's London studio in Notting Hill. The “001” stands for the fact that each is a one-of-a-kind creation. In addition to lighting, Menz plans to expand the offerings of her studio to include furniture and accessories.

- Pair of French 19th Century Figurative Patinated Bronze Candelabra LampsBy J. PradierLocated in Vancouver, British ColumbiaA beautifully cast pair of French 19th century neoclassical patinated figural bronze nine arm candelabra after a model by Jaen Jacques Pradier They are signed J. Pradier and were converted into lamps in the 20th century. There are no visible foundry marks on the bronzes. Born in Geneva in 1792 in Switzerland, Pradier was the son of a Protestant family from Toulouse. He left for Paris in 1807 to work with his elder brother, Charles-Simon Pradier, an engraver, and also attended the École des Beaux-Arts beginning in 1808. He won a Prix de Rome that enabled him to study in Rome from 1814-1818 at the Villa Médici. Pradier made his debut at the Salon in 1819 and quickly acquired a reputation as a competent artist. He studied under Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in Paris. In 1827 he became a member of the Académie des beaux-arts and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts.
