Louise Nevelson
Night Tree

1972

About the Item

As always, Caviar20 is thrilled to present the esteemed work of Louise Nevelson - one of the most revered and unique artists of the 20th century. (Also, an artist who continues to be undervalued - compared to her male contemporaries...On the plus side, there is a tremendous opportunity for the savvy collector). Although Nevelson is best known for her work as a sculptor, like many of her American contemporaries, Nevelson explored the many different branches of printmaking, as the field experienced a mid-century renaissance. Nevelson expanded her practice as an artist by exploring printmaking. While her sculptural works used a consistent methodology, mostly favoring painted wood in black, her work as a printmaker was more experimental. Nevelson consistently tried different techniques. "Night Tree" was one of six prints in Nevelson's Lead Intaglio series. The works in this series feature thin, embossed lead plates on CM Fabriano paper. While the project was a singular experiment, the outcome is a premier example of Nevelson's innovative work in three dimensions. Not surprisingly, works from this series can be found in several prominent museum collections including the MoMA the United States Library of Congress, the Brooks Museum of Art, and several others. Louise Nevelson was Caviar20's fastest-selling artist in recent years. As interest in her work is compounding rapidly, her prints are, like the rest of her work, becoming less accessible. This is a fantastic piece for a young collector, or to complement an existing sculpture in your collection. Richard Diebenkorn (1922-1993) is a renowned American painter and printmaker. Diebenkorn is celebrated for his work across abstraction and figuration, moving between the two styles over the course of his career. Beginning his career in the mid-1940s, Diebenkorn moved from San Fransisco to Woodstock where he responded to the post-war cultural shift that ushered in abstract expressionism in New York and beyond. Dedicating nearly a decade to abstract expressionism, Diebenkorn gained prominence for his work before abruptly changing course. He began to explore figuration and become part of the first generation of the Bay Area Figurative Movement. Completed in 1987, "Double X...
