Alfred Powell Wedgwood Creamware Grape Vine Pattern Sauce Tureen

About the Item

A fine Wedgwood creamware lidded sauce tureen and stand attributed to Alfred Powell and dating from the early 20th century and probably Art Deco period. The set comprises of a round stand with recessed center, a round twin scroll handle sauce tureen standing raised on a narrow pedestal foot and a fitted domed cover with ladle cutout and with a floral shaped handle. The set is decorated in colored enamels with trailing fruiting grape vines with the pattern repeated on each element. The edges and handle have brown painted edging and leaf patterns. The design is similar in shape to that produced by Wedgwood around 1815 and the all elements have printed and impressed makers marks to the bases. Provenance: from an extensive private Wedgwood collection. In good condition.
