Putting It Together in Palm Beach
“It’s meant to have a light, airy, beachy vibration,” Tom Scheerer says of the relaxed mix of vintage, antique and modern furnishings he chose for the sitting room of a young family’s Palm Beach home. With liberal helpings of wicker and rattan, including a torqued side table, a 1960s French oak-topped cocktail table and a cotton and raffia carpet to cushion bare feet — as well as white linen slipcovers on the custom sofa and Edward Wormley club chairs — the space is a classic distillation of Scheerer’s touch-of-the-tropics signature aesthetic. The botanical motif of the Guy Yanai diptych over the sofa is referenced in accent pillows, the black iron standing lamp and the glazed pinecone lamp (like the Wormley chairs and the cocktail table, found on 1stDibs). “Some styles don’t play nice with each other,” says the New York–based designer, “but making small connections can draw it all together.”
