Geremia Design
California Living Perfected

This historic 1940 Tudor built on a hillside in Belvedere, California, boasts stunning views of the island’s picturesque harbor and the distant Golden Gate Bridge. For Bay Area designer Lauren Geremia, it represents the best of West Coast living. In the sprawling front room, she inserted a raised concrete platform against the high-windowed far wall, to give her clients a dining spot where they can enjoy the view while at the table. Her intervention also makes for a contemporary counterbalance to the baronial ambience of the diamond-pattern leaded windows and the timber-vaulted ceiling. “We were interested in personalizing the architecture, while respecting the house’s original intention,” Geremia notes. The mid-century modern dining set is the clients’ own. In concert with the woven-palm and oak credenzas by Michael van Beuren from Luteca, sourced on 1stDibs, they imbue the space with a sense of handcraft. However, what truly animates it is the pair of octagonal Murano glass mirrors, another 1stDibs discovery. “Their geometric shape complements the windows,” says Geremia, and “in the afternoon, the mirrors, with their iridescent opaline frames, bounce the changing light in an amazing way.”
