Informazioni sull’articolo

Camaleonda, designed by Mario Bellini in 1970, is the sofa that defined the aesthetics of an entire era in interior design, becoming an icon of Italian design. Camaleonda achieved success after being featured in the exhibition "Italy, The New Domestic Landscape" at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1972. A unique and dynamic product in which Mario Bellini skillfully balanced the strict geometry of the square module with the welcoming roundness of the upholstery, emphasizing the elasticity and tactile ergonomics that characterize many of Mario Bellini's design projects. Camaleonda is characterized by its generous padding, which forms the characteristic capitonné, achieved through an innovative system of cables, hooks, and rings, ensuring the appearance and modularity of the elements that could be used freely and separately from each other. The sofa's remarkable comfort was achieved through the use of expanded polyurethane, a modern industrial and technological approach that B&B Italia introduced to the furniture sector at the time, ushering in an innovative technological approach that shook up the world of upholstered furniture in those years. This piece still features the original structural material as well as the covering, made of soft biscuit-colored pure cotton corduroy, now cleaned with specific upholstery products. On the back, you can find the original B&B Italia manufacturer's label, ensuring the authenticity of the piece. Mario Bellini (1935) is one of the most influential and innovative contemporary architects and designers of the 20th century. Starting in the early 1960s, he transitioned from urban planning to become one of the most critical product and furniture designers of his time. Early in his career, Bellini collaborated with major companies such as Olivetti, Cassina, and B&B Italia, experimenting with new materials and techniques, leading to an early understanding of synthetic resins and polyurethanes, innovating the industry and achieving significant technical milestones. Internationally renowned, Bellini is an eight-time winner of the Golden Compass Award and has received prestigious architecture awards.
