T69 XL Table by Osvaldo Borsani and Eugenio Gerli for Tecno SPA

Informazioni sull’articolo

Extremely rare T69 XL table with five legs, designed by Osvaldo Borsani in collaboration with Eugenio Gerli in the late 1950s for Tecno SPA. While the standard T69 tables (types A and B) were typically produced with four legs and a maximum diameter of 140 cm, this exclusive XL version features a five-leg configuration and an original smoked glass top measuring 150 cm in diameter. To exceed the standard dimensions, this five-legged variant was patented; however, due to the much higher production costs compared to the four-legged version, only a few examples were made and production lasted for a limited time. The base is made of solid painted aluminum with brushed brass sheet accents. It features five legs and a 14 mm thick smoked glass top with five precisely carved notches, allowing it to sit securely and exactly on the base. The glass is in excellent, near-perfect condition with no scratches or chips. The aluminum base shows only minimal signs of age consistent with nearly 70 years and has been partially refinished at the center with great care. Overall, this is a rare, restored collectible in excellent vintage condition—a museum-quality piece for discerning admirers of one of the most important designers of the 20th century. Product Name: “T69 XL” Table by Osvaldo Borsani and Eugenio Gerli for Tecno SPA Designers: Osvaldo Borsani in collaboration with Eugenio Gerli Design Year: Late 1950s Style: Italian Modernism with strong postwar industrial design influence Primary Materials: Painted solid aluminum, brushed brass sheet, original smoked glass Distinctive Design: Five-leg aluminum base with brass accents, topped with a 150 cm round smoked glass top featuring five notches for perfect alignment Dimensions: Height 72 cm (28.3 in) – Diameter 150 cm (59.1 in) – Glass thickness 14 mm Typical Use: High-end dining or meeting table, ideal for luxury residential or professional design environments Design Icon: A rare piece produced in very limited quantities due to high production costs compared to the standard four-leg version Condition: Excellent vintage condition; base restored with minor age-related marks, glass top virtually flawless Additional Notes: A collector’s rarity, confirmed as a special edition produced briefly due to the cost-intensive five-leg structure. Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was a renowned Italian architect and designer, known for his profound influence on interior and furniture design. Born in Varedo, Italy, he co-founded the furniture firm Arredamenti Borsani Varedo with his brother Fulgenzio in 1953. Borsani made a significant contribution to 20th-century design, with a special focus on modern furniture, material innovation, and new production techniques. His work includes furniture, lighting, and accessories that have become symbols of postwar Italian modernism. His creations earned him wide recognition, and he played a key role in elevating Italian design to the international stage. Today, his work remains highly sought after by collectors and design lovers for its timeless aesthetics and historical importance. Tecno SPA is a prestigious Italian design company specializing in furniture for residential, public, and office environments. Founded in Milan in 1953 by Osvaldo and Fulgenzio Borsani, Tecno quickly gained international acclaim for its commitment to innovation, quality, and functional design. The company became known for its pioneering use of modern materials and ergonomic solutions, and collaborated with many world-famous designers such as Gae Aulenti, Norman Foster, and others to develop iconic pieces that helped shape the standards of contemporary design. Over the years, the company has developed a wide range of products—including chairs, tables, shelving systems, and accessories for both public and private spaces.
