Sculptural form brass day bed by Osvaldo Borsani, Arredamento Borsani, circa 1958
By Arredamenti Borsani, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Osvaldo Borsani
Located in bergen op zoom, NL
Beautiful and important sculpturakl form brass single bed or day bed circa 1958-1963 by Osvaldo Borsani for 'Arredamento Borsani', Varedo , Italy. The small series of Borsani beds designed were produced in several different designs ,each in very limited numbers and all hand made by the Arredamento Borsani in Varedo, italy. This series of beds never went into serial industrial production , a fact confirmed to me by the Arredamento Borsani archives. Beginning in the late 1950s,Osvaldo Borsani went on to collaborate with many great artists such as Lucio Fontana, Fausto Melotti, Agenore Fabbri, Aligi Sassu and Arnaldo Pomodoro, amongst others entrusting each to provide decorative elements to his designs. The brass headboard features a series of heavy cast solid brass interlocking geometric elements each featuring a beautiful organic three dimensional surface finish creating a supremely elegant and timeless repetitive motif . The bed still retains all its original decorative brass nuts ,bolts and finials which feature the same three dimensional decorative finish as the decorative sculptural forms contained in the headboard. We have had a new bespoke mattress and bolster pillow made with a natural latex foam surface as they would have originally had which also has the benefit that latex breathes. The mattress has an opulent decorative buttoned finish . Botht the mattress and pillow have been finished in 100% wool 'PLOEGWOOL' fabric by the high quality Dutch fabric manufacturer DE PLOEG. MATTRESS DIMENSIONS : Width 100cm x length 200cm / 3ft 3.37inch x 6ft 6.74inch BOLSTER PILLOW DIMENSIONS: Width 100cm diameter 24cm / 3ft 3.37inch x 9.45inch The mattress is supported on a 20mm ( 0.75 inch ) thick plywood board ,with breathing holes, which spans across the transverse brass plated steel frame elements. When used as a day bed SEATING...

Rare Osvaldo Borsani Vanity Table in Maple with Mirrors and Built-in Lights
By Arredamenti Borsani, Osvaldo Borsani
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, dressing table, model '6142', maple, brass, mirrored glass, lacquered wood, Italy, 1943 An exquisite and truly exceptional vanity table designed by the Italian Osvaldo Borsani, dating back to around 1943. This rare gem encapsulates the quintessence of Borsani's design ethos: elegant and graceful proportions, fine materials, and unique constellations. Crafted from warm-toned maple, every detail speaks of refinement, from the intricately carved legs adorned with graphic white lines to the kidney-shaped top embellished with a mirrored surface, reflecting one's cherished objects with finesse. An outstanding element is the trio of individual rectangular mirrors with softly rounded contours, equipped with built-in lamps executed within a brass framework, their crown sockets gracefully encircling the lightbulbs. These mirrors are affixed to a maple panel punctuated by three characteristic holes, a signature touch of Borsani. A discreet drawer offers practical storage while maintaining the table's sleek aesthetic. In every aspect, this table attests to Borsani's masterful ability to strike the perfect balance between the orante elegance of Art Deco and the daring approach towards materiality and streamlined functionality of Modernism. Osvaldo Borsani (1911-1985) was an Italian designer and architect, raised by a family of fine furniture makers in Varedo. At the age of 16, he joined his father’s furniture shop, the Atelier di Varedo, which was fully engaged in designing and furnishing homes inspired by the Italian Art Deco movement. The designer of the atelier was the Italian architect Gino Maggioni (1898-1955) who was known for his Viennese Jugendstil orientation of the early 20th century. In the 1930s, he graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and Politecnico di Milano, where he studied Fine Arts and Architecture respectively. In 1932, the family company was renamed ‘Arredamenti Borsani’ and opened its first studio in Milan. During this period, he encountered Avant-Garde artists of various artistic disciplines like Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), Agenore Fabbri (1911-1998), Aligi Sassu (1912-2000), Roberto Crippa (1921-1972), Fausto Melotti (1901-1986), Arnaldo Pomodoro (1926-) and Giò Pomodoro (1930-2002). These collaborations resulted in the creation of furniture and interior design projects with a high-level of craftsmanship and artistry. In 1953, Borsani founded together with his twin brother Fulgenzio Borsani ‘Tecno’, a design and manufacturing company that produced items based on mechanical innovations and refined technicality. The ‘P40’ adjustable lounge chair (1953) has become the ideological manifesto of Borsani's Tecno program, and still remains the best known, exemplary piece in the Tecno catalogue. Other iconic works that were produced by Tecno were created by Gio Ponti (1891-1979), Vico cham...

20th Century Osvaldo Borsani Bright Wall Mirror
By Arredamenti Borsani, Osvaldo Borsani
Located in Turin, Turin
Osvaldo Borsani in 1953, together with his brother Fulgenzio, realized his most complex project: a company idea named after the "techne" of the Greeks, which means both art and technique. Tecno thinking was born: the perfect synthesis between the artisan experience of the atelier and its declination on a larger scale. Tecno is first and foremost an entrepreneur's project: Italy has begun its process of tertiarization; the office environment does not yet have its unquestionable formal definition, and that is where Osvaldo Borsani wants to get to: to reinvent for workspaces that mix of formal elegance, rigor and rational functionality that the modern movement had developed for domestic living. Wonderful and unique wall mirror...

Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo Daybed in Walnut
By Arredamenti Borsani, Osvaldo Borsani
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, daybed, model 5767, walnut, fabric, Italy, 1941 This exceedingly rare sofa or daybed, designed by Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo in 1941, was originally intended for Casa Albonetto in Italy. The designer himself owned a smaller version of this type. This modest daybed serves as a prime example of Borsani's impeccable innovative thinking and his keen sense of harmonious compositions. When it comes to practicality, its defining feature are the adjustable armrests, simultaneously placing the backrest cushions over the lowered armrests. In an easy gesture the sofa is transformed into a daybed. A generous storage compartment is present by raising the seating space upwards. The overall wooden frame in walnut is characterized by rounded contours and clear lines with evenly spaced spindles structuring the piece. Unique Osvaldo Borsani Highboard in Cherry with Flora and Fauna Motifs
By Osvaldo Borsani, Arredamenti Borsani
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo, wardrobe, cherry, lacquer, lacquered wood, brass, mirrored glass, aluminum, metal, Italy, circa 1950 A truly exceptional piece designed custom for a private client by the Italian visionary Osvaldo Borsani for Arredamenti Borsani Varedo. As early as 1941, ABV showcased one of the first wardrobes featuring intricate flora and fauna illustrations—a testament to their artistic approach. Wardrobe designs stood as an important endeavor for ABV, and Borsani's ingenuity was apparent in the numerous adaptations made: doors adorned with diverse prints, interiors tailored to suit specific client preferences, and a spectrum of customizable finishes were all hallmarks of their creative output. The body of this piece is meticulously crafted from exquisite warm-toned cherry wood, adhering to a simple yet elegant design enriched by intricate carvings running along its border. The four door panels bear the skilled handiwork of Adriano Spilimbergo (1908-1975), a painter known for his picturesque landscapes. These panels are adorned with mesmerizing illustrations of leaves and flowers, achieved through the art of relief lacquering, and rendered in subtle and delicate colors. Inside, the interior is adorned with a vibrant blue hue, and it is thoughtfully furnished with coat racks, tie rack, drawers, and mirrors. This piece stands as a genuine masterpiece, excelling not just in its functionality but also in its aesthetic excellence.
