Thonet No 14 For Sale on 1stDibs

With a vast inventory of beautiful furniture at 1stDibs, we’ve got just the thonet no 14 you’re looking for. A thonet no 14 — often made from wood, bentwood and beech — can elevate any home. Whether you’re looking for an older or newer thonet no 14, there are earlier versions available from the 19th Century and newer variations made as recently as the 20th Century. A thonet no 14 is a generally popular piece of furniture, but those created in Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles are sought with frequency. You’ll likely find more than one thonet no 14 that is appealing in its simplicity, but Thonet, Michael Thonet and Jacob and Josef Kohn produced versions that are worth a look.

How Much is a Thonet No 14?

Prices for a thonet no 14 can differ depending upon size, time period and other attributes — at 1stDibs, they begin at $410 and can go as high as $2,836, while the average can fetch as much as $920.

Finding the Right Seating for You

With entire areas of our homes reserved for “sitting rooms,” the value of quality antique and vintage seating cannot be overstated.

Fortunately, the design of side chairs, armchairs and other lounge furniture — since what were, quite literally, the early perches of our ancestors — has evolved considerably.

Among the earliest standard seating furniture were stools. Egyptian stools, for example, designed for one person with no seat back, were x-shaped and typically folded to be tucked away. These rudimentary chairs informed the design of Greek and Roman stools, all of which were a long way from Sori Yanagi's Butterfly stool or Alvar Aalto's Stool 60. In the 18th century and earlier, seats with backs and armrests were largely reserved for high nobility.

The seating of today is more inclusive but the style and placement of chairs can still make a statement. Antique desk chairs and armchairs designed in the style of Louis XV, which eventually included painted furniture and were often made of rare woods, feature prominently curved legs as well as Chinese themes and varied ornaments. Much like the thrones of fairy tales and the regency, elegant lounges crafted in the Louis XV style convey wealth and prestige. In the kitchen, the dining chair placed at the head of the table is typically reserved for the head of the household or a revered guest.

Of course, with luxurious vintage or antique furnishings, every chair can seem like the best seat in the house. Whether your preference is stretching out on a plush sofa, such as the Serpentine, designed by Vladimir Kagan, or cozying up in a vintage wingback chair, there is likely to be a comfy classic or contemporary gem for you on 1stDibs.

With respect to the latest obsessions in design, cane seating has been cropping up everywhere, from sleek armchairs to lounge chairs, while bouclé fabric, a staple of modern furniture design, can be seen in mid-century modern, Scandinavian modern and Hollywood Regency furniture styles.

Admirers of the sophisticated craftsmanship and dark woods frequently associated with mid-century modern seating can find timeless furnishings in our expansive collection of lounge chairs, dining chairs and other items — whether they’re vintage editions or alluring official reproductions of iconic designs from the likes of Hans Wegner or from Charles and Ray Eames. Shop our inventory of Egg chairs, designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen, the Florence Knoll lounge chair and more.

No matter your style, the collection of unique chairs, sofas and other seating on 1stDibs is surely worthy of a standing ovation.

Questions About Thonet No 14
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Thonet is a well known furniture company that was started by Michael Thonet in 1830 as he experimented with bentwood furniture. The brand is known for producing high-quality products with exquisite craftsmanship. Shop a collection of Thonet furniture from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 13, 2024
A Thonet chair can be any chair developed by the furniture maker Thonet, which has been manufacturing furniture for more than 180 years. However, most people are referring to one designed by founder Gebrüder Thonet. It features a bentwood frame produced with a patent steam method that Thonet patented and a curved seat. Find a range of Thonet chairs on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertMarch 3, 2023
Perhaps the most significant thing about the Thonet chair was that it was the first chair to ever be shipped in parts with instructions that allowed the purchaser to assemble it themselves. As a result, the beech wood and rattan chairs could be mass produced and sold all over the world more easily. Shop a range of Thonet chairs on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
An authentic Thonet chair will have the company’s name with a solid line underneath carved somewhere on the chair. The brand can also confirm the authenticity and age of a Thonet chair via its website. Shop a variety of authentic Thonet furniture on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 13, 2023
A Thonet-style chair is a wooden chair that has a curvy, bent backrest, a round seat and subtly flared legs. The chairs get their name from the original manufacturer, Thonet, which produced chairs in the mid-century modern style in Europe during the 20th century. Shop a range of Thonet furniture on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Michael Thonet is a German-Austrian furniture maker who designed the famed bentwood chair in 1830. His last name, Thonet, is pronounced “TOE-net,” but it’s commonly mispronounced “tho-NAY.” Shop a collection of vintage and modern Michael Thonet pieces on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022
Yes, Thonet chairs are marked. You will usually find the brand's label on a tag or burned into the wood under the seat. On 1stDibs, you can shop a variety of expertly vetted Thonet furniture from top sellers around the world.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
Whether or not Thonet chairs are stackable depends on their design. The bentwood chairs produced by the company do easily stack, but others like cantilever chairs do not. Find a range of Thonet chairs forms some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022

You can learn more about the authentication process on the Thonet website. Shop a diverse assortment of Thonet chairs on 1stDibs.

The term 14K gold, or 14-karat gold, refers to a type of gold alloy. The term alloy means a metal made of two or more base metals. In the case of 14-karat gold, 58.5% of the content is pure gold, and the remaining 41.5% is alloy metal. Due to the strength of the metal, many jewelry makers use 14-karat gold in their pieces. Find a wide variety of 14-karat gold jewelry on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertNovember 6, 2023
The term "14K earrings" means a pair of earrings that feature 14-karat white, yellow or rose gold. To be labeled 14-karat, a gold alloy must consist of 14 parts gold and 10 parts base metal. This means that 58.3% of the alloy is gold, and 41.7% consists of other metals. Find a wide range of gold earrings on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertJanuary 23, 2024
Where a 14-inch necklace sits varies from person to person. The thickness of a person's neck will influence where a necklace hangs. However, a 14-inch necklace will usually rest at the base of the neck, right on the bone. People refer to necklaces of this length as chokers due to how they hug the neck. On 1stDibs, explore a diverse assortment of choker necklaces.

There are several reasons why 14-karat earrings are good. The color of 14-karat gold is vivid, so many people find it visually appealing. Also, with 41.7% of its content coming from alloys, 14-karat gold is hard and strong. As a result, earrings made from it are less likely to become scratched, bent or broken compared to pieces featuring alloys with less base metal, like 18- and 22-karat. The metal is also less prone to tarnishing than varieties that contain more base metals, like 9- and 10-carat. Shop a diverse assortment of 14-karat gold earrings on 1stDibs.
