1984 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Documented Sequin Satin Maxi Tuxedo Jacket

About the Item

Breathtaking and totally iconic Yves Saint Laurent haute couture maxi length tuxedo jacket dating back to his beloved 1984 fall-winter collection. It is insanely chic with its fluid femme fatale sculpted construction yet masculine approach. The design is definitely a nod to his 1966 "Le Smoking" tuxedo suit for women which was the first of its kind to earn attention in the fashion world and in popular culture. The luxurious fabric on this garment is a masterpiece in itself; a sparkling sequin embroidered lace overlay on a mid-weight duchess silk satin. The carefully placed floral motif sequin lace gives the garment so much depth and texture. The full-length jacket has padded structured shoulders with a figuring fitted nipped waist. This is that versatile designer piece every fashionista looks for. Perfect for the dressiest red carpet occasion or pair it with slacks for a totally different vibe. Yves Saint Laurent was seen by many as having empowered women by giving them the option to wear clothes that were normally worn by men with influence and power. Saint Laurent would go on to include a "tuxedo" look in each of his collections until 2002. A wearable piece of true haute couture fashion history. Measurements Bust: 36-37 inches Waist: 29 inches Hips: up to 38 inches Total Length: 60 inches This Yves Saint Laurent haute couture numbered 58972 maxi tuxedo jacket is in excellent condition with no rips, stains or holes. We added many pictures so one can appreciate this masterful achievement. An incredibly rare custom garment and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.

A rare and coveted Pleats Please by Issey Miyake dress from the collaboration with Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang, Guest Artist Series No. 4, 1998. It can be worn as a dress or a jacket. The mind-boggling process of creating the design by sprinkling gunpowder onto the patterns and evoking a detonation is shown in the YouTube video above (an even more prolonged and more detailed version here). Asymmetrical cut, pleated throughout. Bat look shoulders and sleeves! 100% polyester. Made in Japan. A dress of this series is held by the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute archives. They state: "Miyake launched the Pleats Please Guest Artist Series in 1996. For the fourth collaboration in the series, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang used gunpowder explosions to burn images of dragons, a Chinese symbol for life, onto a group of finished white garments. To produce the line, Miyake adjusted the images for printing on flat fabric before cutting, sewing, and pleating." Kerry Taylor...
