Danish Late 19th century Stool with carved painted legs and embroidered seat.
By Johan Rohde, Thorvald Bindesbøll
Located in København K, 84
A Tapestry of Danish Artistry: Late 19th Century Stool with Ornately Carved, Painted Legs, and Embroidered Seat. Nestled within the annals of Danish craftsmanship, this late 19th-century stool emerges as a testament to the intersection of functional design and artistic expression. Crafted during a period characterized by a renewed appreciation for traditional craftsmanship, this stool stands as a tangible embodiment of the artistic spirit that defined late 19th-century Danish furniture. The most striking feature of this stool lies in its intricately carved legs, a showcase of the artisan's meticulous skill and dedication to the craft. Each leg, adorned with ornate patterns, is a canvas where the artist's imagination meets the timeless elegance of Danish design. The intricate carvings, expertly executed, elevate the stool from mere functional furniture to a piece of sculptural art. The color palette chosen for the legs reflects the prevailing aesthetic preferences of the time. Rich yet understated tones of green, red, and gold intertwine harmoniously, creating a visual symphony that captures the essence of late 19th-century Danish decorative arts. The choice of colors not only imparts a regal quality to the stool but also evokes a sense of warmth and opulence. Adding an extra layer of refinement is the embroidered seat, a delicate touch that complements the sturdy and artistic foundation of the stool. The embroidery, meticulously crafted with precision, showcases a fusion of floral and geometric patterns, contributing to the overall aesthetic coherence of the piece. The choice of colors in the embroidery mirrors...

Kaare Klint Sofa Model 5011 in Original Cognac Leather Rud Rasmussen, Denmark
By Kaare Klint, Rud Rasmussen
Located in WIJCKEL, NL
Two-seater sofa model 5011 in original cognac leather and six-legged mahogany base. Produced by Rud. Rasmussen Cabinetmakers, Denmark. Minor marks on the frame, patina to the leather. Back covered in original canvas. Shown at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild exhibition in 1935. Signed with decal manufacturer’s label to underside: (Rud. Rasmussens Snedkerier). Kaare Klint is widely recognized as the father of Danish modern design. It is hard to overstate his influence. He developed an entirely new analytical approach to furniture design that his students at the Danish Academy of Art would emulate for years to come, yet was also inspired by historic designs from various cultures, modernizing and re-interpreting classic pieces for new generations. Literature: Gorm Harkær, Klintiana: “Kaare Klint”, vol.2, pg 94. Kaare Klint (1888-1954) is regarded as the founding father of Danish Modernim. As an architect, furniture designer and leading professor at the Department of Furniture Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Klint established the principles of modern Danish furniture by combining a profound appreciation of traditional construction techniques with a modernist emphasis on function and a rejection of ornaments. Klint’s design was always based on relentless research; he never compromised. Every piece had to fulfill its purpose, be completely clear in its construction with dimensions and proportions corresponding to the human body and display materials and craftsmanship of the highest quality. Logic, often using a mathematical system of measures, and a constructive way of thinking were the foundation of Klint’s philosophy of furniture design. Like many of his contemporaries, counting Le Corbusier and Walter Gropius, he advocated standardization and functional requirements and dismissed the use of all ornamentation. But Klint realized his vision in wood and leather, using traditional craftsmen and working methods and often finding inspiration in historical models. In this way, he charted the course for an alternative Nordic Functionalism that idealized the workshop and the collaboration between furniture architects and cabinetmakers as opposed to the factory. Kaare Klint’s first major work was a collaboration with his mentor, the architect Carl Petersen. In 1914 they were commissioned to design furniture and fixtures for Faaborg Art Museum. One of the highlights to emerge from this commission was the Faaborg chair, a light and elegant chair with clear references to classical furniture. The construction and proportions of an 18th century English Chippendale chair...

Kai Kristiansen Twelve Restored Teak Dining Chairs Including Custom Reupholstery
By Kai Kristiansen, Schou Andersen Møbelfabrik
Located in Knebel, DK
Kai Kristiansen set of twelve fully restored teak dining chairs by Schou Andersens Møbel Fabrik. The A-frame model 31 dining chairs were designed by Kai Kristiansen in 1956 for Schou-Andersens Møbelfabrik and the A-frame chair is one of the most well-known chairs designed by Kai Kristiansen - a true Classic with its modest appearence but advanced design with curved backrest, crooked angles, straight yet at the same time curved and bended lines... and on top of that as all of Kai Kristiansens chairs very comfortable in use. The chairs have been checked, restored and reglued if needed, sanded and refinished by our cabinetmaker to insure that they are in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and use and and will be reupholstered in fabric from a wide list of "Kvadrat" / Romo fabrics of your choice or a list of standard leathers from "Sorensen Leather" / "Camo Leater". Kai Kristiansen who is still alive was born in 1929 and raised in Thy, North Denmark. Originally a carpenter, Kristiansen was educated as a building architect at the Royal Academi of Arts in Copenhagen and graduated from here in 1954. His father was the propritetor of at furniture production company, so his interest in furniture was founded early. Kristiansen was one of the last pupils of the famous architect Kaare Klint who died in 1959 and is considered the founder of modern Danish design. During the years 1958-1978 Kristiansen worked in his business in Aarhus owned jointly by himself and designer and cabinetmaker Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999). Kristiansens works met their most intense demand during a few decades from 1950, then production of them was discontinued. However, several of the are now being produced again by the Japanese furniture producer Miyazaki Chair Mill in Tokushima. An Australien producer has also included Kristiansen production in their portfolio. Kai Kristiansen might have been the originator of mass produced furniture, had he accepted an offer from Ikea-founder Ingvar Kamprad. He declined to let himself enroll in the Ikea staff. Kristiansen exhibitions include numerous participations in furniture and design shows in Milano, Paris, Cologne and London. Among his most cherished works is the Paper Knife collection...

4 Neils O Moller Scandinavian Modern Model 71 Teak Dining Chairs by J.L. Mollers
By J. L. Möller Höjbjerg, Neils O. Möller
Located in Topeka, KS
Awesome Neils O Moeller Scandinavian Modern Model 71 teak dining chairs by J.L. Mollers Mobelfabrik set of 4. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. We have repaired damaged rope in the seats and reglued all of the joints. New cord has a slightly lighter color but should age. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. WOW!!!! We have an INCREDIBLE set of four Neils O. Moller Scandinavian Modern Model #71 teak dining chairs by J.L. Mollers Mobelfabrik to offer to you!!! They are comprised of four straight tapered legs with the front two stopping at the seat top and the back two continuing up as the back-support posts. The back is a simple bowed band of teak between the two posts. The seats are comprised of a beautiful natural colored basket weave paper cord. When viewed from the side, they have kind of a swoop dimension… They’re FABULOUS!! The smooth clean lines of these Scandinavian Modern dining chairs will beautifully blend with many interior design styles from Danish Modern to modern country or a mountain rustic house, and from mid-century modern to industrial or a home with a western flair. Whether at a dining table, breakfast nook, or game table, this set of four dining chairs will be incredible around whatever table you choose; however, you may want to consider our listings for matching Scandinavian Modern dining tables just in case!! In 1944, Neils Otto Møller founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik in Denmark, a company that has received many awards, including the Danish Furniture Prize in 1974 and 1981. He designed with no compromise and a work ethic that would take him years to complete. His work ethic is why the Møller collection is relatively small for a company that’s been around for more than 70 years, but that’s what makes Møller so special. Their designs are clean, simple, and timeless. In the 1960s, Niels’ sons Jørgen Henrik Moller...

Leif Hansen "Model 62" Sofa for Kronen Møbelfabrikken, Denmark, 1960s
By Kronen, Leif Hansen
Located in Utrecht, NL
Leif Hansen’s Model 62 sofa is commonly referred to as the “Geisha” and was designed in 1959. This model is a strikingly elegant example of Danish modernism’s streamlined, luxurious aesthetic appeal to contemporary eyes. This three-seater sofa is made of two types of exotic woods and dressed in a premium light fabric. Its character is created by three main elements: the visually sectioned, fully upholstered body, the wooden accents on the arms, and the distinctively shaped legs. It says a lot when a model is representative not only of a designer, but also of a manufactory. So is the case with this Geisha sofa...
