Graduated from the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts in 1987 in the studio of Prof. Kazimierz Ostrowski. Between 1995 and 2002 founder and co-manager of Koło Gallery in Gdańsk. lnitiator of the Kazimierz Ostrowski Award, con-ferred by the Union of Polish Artists and Designers (ZPAP), Gdańsk Chapter. Dean of the Painting Faculty of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts in the years 2008-2012. Vice Rector for Development and Cooperation of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts in the years 2012-2016. Obtained a professorship in 2011. Currently head of the Third Painting Studio of the Painting Faculty of the Gdańsk Academy of Fine Arts. He has taken part in a few dozen exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He has received countless prizes and awards for his artistic work. He is active in the field of painting, drawing, objects, and video. Artist Statement In the 1990s I started collecting flakes of paint – leftovers from my work. I would put fresh ones in wooden formworks, dried ones in glass containers. They constituted layers of investigations into the field of painting, enclosed in dated and numbered cuboids measuring 47 × 10.5 × 10.5 cm. I called those objects Urns. In 2016, I displayed them at an exhibition, moulding a single object out of all the Urns. The Urns inspired me to redefine the status of my work as a painter. In order to do it, I performed a daunting task of placing the layers of paint not in an urn, but on a canvas, pressing each fresh bit of paint with my thumb. In the cycle of paintings Autoportret a’retour, the matter was transferred from painting to painting, expanding the area of each consecutive one. Together, the bits, the residua of paint, kept alive the memory of the previous works. It was a stage of the atomization of the painting matter and its alienation from the traditional concepts and aesthetic relations. Thus, the cycle of synergic paintings was created, as I called them, guided by the feeling evoked in me by the mutually intensifying flakes of paint. The final aesthetic result of the refining of the digested matter was a consequence of the automatism of the process of layering, thumb-pressing, and scraping off again. Just like in an archaeological excavation, attempts are made to unite and retrieve that which has been lost. This avant-garde concept consists in transferring into the area of painting of matter, virtually degraded and not belonging to the realm of art. And yet the matter re-enters it, acquiring a new meaning. The matter I created, building up like lava, became my new technique. I called it perpetuum pictura – self-perpetuated painting. Alchemical concepts allowed me to identify the process inherent in the emerging matter, to give it direction and meaning. In a way, I created matter which was introducing me into the pre-symbolic world – a world before form, unnamed. From this painterly magma, ideas sprung up, old theories of colour and the convoluted problem of squaring the circle manifested themselves again. Just like Harriot’s crystal refracted light in 1605, I tried to break up colour in the painting Iosis. Paintings were becoming symptoms, like in the work Pulp fiction, which at that time was a gesture of total fragmentation of matter and of transcending its boundaries, my dialogue with the works of Jackson Pollock and the freedom brought by his art. The painting Geometrica de physiologiam pictura contains a diagram in which I enter four colours that constitute an introduction to protopsychology, alchemical transmutation, and the ancient theory of colour. It this work I managed to present the identification of the essence of human physiology with art. But the essential aspect of my considerations in my most recent paintings is the analysis of abstraction, the study of its significance for the contemporary language of art and the search for the possibilities of creating a new message. For me, abstraction is not an end in itself, catering to the largely predicable expectations of the viewers. To study the boundary between visibility and invisibility, like in the work Unsichtbar, is to ask about the status of the possibilities of the language of abstraction. The moment of fluidity which I am able to attain results from the matter – matter...

Untitled (Letitia, pregnant with Rising Sun) Graphite on paper, 2005 Signed: "Sedrick Huckaby III" lower right (see photo) In April 2008, Huckaby was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship for "stellar achievement and exceptional promise for continued accomplishment" Provenance: Valley House Gallery, the artist's dealer for many years Inv. #12949 Image size: 6 3/4 x 10 inches Sedrick Huckaby (b. 1975) Born in Fort Worth in 1975, Huckaby has been creating some form of art since his childhood. In 1995, he began his formal art studies at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. After a brief stay he transferred to Boston University, where he received a BFA degree. He then earned a MFA degree from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Huckaby is known for his powerful use of color and his exploration of cultural roles and the heritage of the African American family. His work has evolved from portraiture to objects and interiors that venerate his personal family legacy rooted in Fort Worth, Texas. Portraying these familiar subjects on a large scale and pushing his use of materials, Huckaby defines the significance of family and tradition while touching on the subject of ethnographic stereotypes in our culture. For the past few years he has concentrated his efforts on a series of quilt paintings. One of the series he created is a tribute to both of his Grandmothers and a celebration of the African American quilting tradition. He used the actual quilts sewn by family members as models for his paintings. These quilts document significant events in his family history. According to Huckaby, the paintings represent an artistic family legacy. The colorful, rhythmic abstracted patterns come together like the musical notes in African American musician John Coltrane's famous jazz composition, A Love Supreme, from which the painting series acquired its name. He has earned national acclaim for his work over the past several years. Huckaby has received the 2001 Louis Comfort Tiffany Award...

"Jimi Hendrix original Color Pencil sketch" Fillmore East the very first version
Located in Southampton, NY
A new coffee table book has just been released titled "Poster Child" The Psychedelic Art & Technicolor Life of David Edward Byrd. This original drawing is featured on page 61 of the book. David Byrd created some of the most memorable Classic Theatre and Rock and Roll images from the 1960s and 70s. David created ALL of the Art for Bill Graham’s Fillmore East, including their Program covers and Rock posters, the art for Jimi Hendrix’s first Fillmore East appearance, The Rolling Stones 1969 World Tour art, The Who’s Performance of Tommy at the New York Metropolitan Opera House and The Fillmore, and The Grateful Dead Swell Dance Concert to name only a few. He also created the poster art for the original location of the 1969 Woodstock music festival . His memorable images were also used for classic Broadway shows like Godspell, Follies and Jesus Christ Superstar to mention only a few. These museum quality drawings are rarely made available for sale, they are not only wonderful rare works of art, but are truly historically important works in the field of Theatre and Rock and Roll collecting. It has been framed with archival double matting. David Byrd's poster art is in many museum collections, including : The Louvre, in Paris, Victoria & Albert in London, The Museum of Modern Art in New York and The Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Featured in this listing is the Original Color pencil Sketch created in 2006 by David Byrd prior to working on the finished painting which we also have available for sale. This drawing created in 2006 is based on David's very first original 1968 drawing for Hendrix's very first Fillmore East concert. It only featured Hendrix, and Bill Graham asked David if he could add the other two members of The Experience, which became the famous Fillmore East orange poster that featured all three members of the Experience. I included and image in this listing of the original pencil drawing from 1968 where you can see Bill requesting all three members to be included in the poster art. In this color rendering, David Byrd indicates two possible color choices for the poster in this sketch by listing the color numbers. He shows one half with one color combination and the other half with a different color combination. That was so that Bill Graham could choose which colors he preferred if the original 1968 poster art was to use this image. A great original color drawing that David Byrd created to show the colors of the first version of the 1968 Hendrix poster...

"Porcupine Quill Jacket" Abstract Minimalist Portrait of a Man
By Lisa Qualls
Located in Houston, TX
Graphite and watercolor drawing on mylar of a figure dressed in a quill jacket made by the Cameroon grass fields people in Africa by Florida artist Lisa Qualls. Titled “Porcupine Quill Jacket,” the work was created as part of a series titled “Strawmen and Sugarbones” made for the "RAW" exhibition at O'Kane Gallery in 2009. In her artist statement for this series Qualls states: “I have isolated pieces of costumes and placed them on a person who is naked in order to emphasize the relationship between the object and person, the materials and skin, the symbol and the living being. The garments and ritual objects relate to the body in specific ways and are used to explore gender roles, societal and cultural ideas, aesthetics and spirituality. The voyeuristic element of the audience to the subjects in the drawings further emphasizes the vulnerability of the figures and their introspective and intimate poses. The figures, part soft and vulnerable, part concealed and protected, live in these ambiguous spaces as they would in a vision.” Dimensions Without Frame: H 36 in. x W 24 in. Artist Biography: Lisa received her BFA and BA from the University of Texas at Austin. She continued her studies in Fine Art and Design at Parsons and FIT in New York, NY and CISIM in Ravenna, Italy. Her work is currently represented by Ann Connelly...

Sleepwalking #23, earth tone, brown, gestural, abstract brushstrokes

Monotype on paper Dramatic disrupted realism imagery from Tom Bennett’s series of monochromatic monotypes, blending surrealistic mindscapes with stark realism About Tom Bennett: With quick brushstrokes, Tom Bennett creates representational images of human figures and animals, emphasizing movement in a manner reminiscent of Lucien Freud, Edgar Degas and the photographer Eadweard Muybridge. Elongated and blurry, the horse racing up a hill (Canter Fritz, 2002) and the sinister cat landing a leap (Chien Blanc, 1998) elicit a sense of foreboding enhanced by Bennett’s somber palette; his female figures too reflect a grim sense of humor with their distorted nude bodies. The face of Untitled Figure (1997), for example, is obscured by layers of dark paint. Classically trained as a painter, he initially worked in oil on canvas but discovered that monotype printing enabled him to “literally push the image around,” creating an essential element of motion. To overcome the limited scale of monotypes, however, he switched to painting on slick-surfaced plastic. Tom Bennett’s practice is rooted in the classical tradition where painting and drawing from life is highly regarded. Bennett’s work is heavily influenced by Francis Bacon, Frank Auberbauch and foremost his father, Harry Bennett, who was also an artist. Tom’s time living abroad in Spain and traveling through Eastern Europe and Africa provided the artistic freedom to explore many of the techniques and subject matter that continue to define his practice. Bennett was born and raised in Connecticut. His mediums include monotypes, oil on paper, canvas or styrene board. In a technique that Tom started over 4 years ago, several of his monotypes have been painted over with oil paint using a palette knife, brush, or his fingers to re-purpose the underlying image. These works are a testament to Bennett’s ability to quickly and concisely compose an image with expressive brush strokes, foreshortened figures and expertly rendered light. Tom’s work has been featured in group and solo exhibitions worldwide. Bennett lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He is currently represented by Tabla Rasa...
