Monica DeSalvo
"Where are the Pants", surreal, red, orange, leaf, writing, mixed media, collage

2023

About the Item

Monica DeSalvo’s “Where are the Pants” is an 18 x 24 inch surreal mixed media collage comprised of a red and orange acrylic monotype on felt textured paper with cut-out leaf forms, and an abstract collage on cream ledger paper with black distressed writing, brown, gray, and gold. A cluster of images with lily pads connects the two halves. Collage elements include DeSalvo’s late father’s paper memorabilia such as the ledger paper, black and white cavalry horses, and legs sitting in a chair. Print fragments are from work created using a Gelli plate. DeSalvo regularly incorporates her father’s paper materials into her work as well as monotypes printed on these surfaces. The diptych is collaged onto heavy archival Canson paper, and the signature is below the image. Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.
