Invitation Card to Andy Warhol Memorial Lunch, from the Estate of Tim Hunt, 1987 Offset lithograph card 6 1/2 × 3 3/5 inches Unframed This invitation to the private memorial lunch for Andy Warhol is an historic collectors item. Pollonaise No. 24, 1988 by Karl Gerich of Bath - Playing Card Print Sheet
Located in Meinisberg, CH
Karl Alexander Gerich (English, 23.4.1956 - 4.1.2016) Pollonaise No. 24, 1988 - Etching - Sheet ca. 27.8 X 42 cm - No plate mark - Varnished ('Glossy Antique French') Finished, coloured, backed and varnished print likely to be a spare sheet (over production), which were never used. Possibly at some later stage, Karl experimented by partially painting the back with divering number of layers of pink. Held up as finished cards the pink would then shine through the varnished card. By holding up the sheet, this effect can be observed in areas with and without the pink backing. Sheets is in good condition and suitable to be framed. Karl was a brilliant playing card maker and certainly one of the most genius artist-craftsmen I had the pleasure to learn about his work and know. He could do it all: Come up with the tale, weave meaning(s) into it, fill it with spirited characters of his liking, draw it, etch it, print it, colour it and handcraft the inks, paper and card into wondersome packs of playing cards, each of them living in their own, most exquisitely crafted boxes. Every pack a magical marvel, filled with the spirit of this genius card maker … All this he did using his Adana printing press, very simple hand tools and great skill. When Karl closed down his studio in St.Peter’s Terrace in Bath, England and moved to Poplar Close, he sold off work for which he felt he no longer wanted to be the custodian. So a number of prints reached the market then. Printed sheets by Karl Gerich...

Alberto Giacometti by Herbert & Mercedes Matter, HC 1st Edition, 1987
Located in Pasadena, CA
In 1960 photographer and designer Herbert Matter made his first visit to Alberto Giacometti's Paris studio and began to create a body of photographs of the renowned artist's work and milieu that both men hoped to see published in book form. Giacometti was astounded by the photographs and told Matter that they enabled him to see his own work in a new light, that they illuminated aspects of his sculptures that he himself had never recognized. In a letter to the photographer, he described the photographs as "each one...a creation in itself, one more beautiful than another." Making these photographs occupied Matter for the next five years; the design of the book and preparations for its publication continued until his death in 1984. Now, more than twenty years after he began, the results of Matter's efforts are finally gathered in this volume. Reproduced here are many of Giacometti's finest works—from the monumental Standing Woman of 1984, to numerous busts of his brother Diego of the 1950s, to the powerful late busts of the 1960s—all sensitively interpreted through Matter's lens. Giacometti's painted portraits of many of the same subjects as the sculptures—his wife, Annette; Diego; the professor Isaku Yanaihara—are an instructive addition to the book. And images of the artist's homeland, the mountainous landscape around Stampa, Switzerland, and his cluttered studio in Paris, filled with objects in various states of completion, add yet another dimension to this study of his art. Complementing the photographs are a preface by Matter himself; brief perceptive texts by art critics Andrew Forge...

Abstract Expressionist poster (Hand signed and inscribed by Henen Frankenthaler)
Located in New York, NY
Helen Frankenthaler Frankenthaler (Hand signed and inscribed), 1988 Offset lithograph (hand signed and inscribed to renowned collectors) Hand signed and warmly inscribed in ink on the front Frame included: Museum frame with UV plexiglass included Inscribed "to Paul and Joan, love Helen Frankenthaler" (Paul and Joan Gluck were major art collectors) Measurements: Framed 42 inches vertical by 34 inches by 1.75 inches Print 34.5 inches vertical by 27 inches Helen Frankenthaler, A Brief Biography Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011), whose career spanned six decades, has long been recognized as one of the great American artists of the twentieth century. She was eminent among the second generation of postwar American abstract painters and is widely credited for playing a pivotal role in the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Color Field painting. Through her invention of the soak-stain technique, she expanded the possibilities of abstract painting, while at times referencing figuration and landscape in unique ways. She produced a body of work whose impact on contemporary art has been profound and continues to grow. Frankenthaler was born on December 12, 1928, and raised in New York City. She attended the Dalton School, where she received her earliest art instruction from Rufino Tamayo. In 1949 she graduated from Bennington College, Vermont, where she was a student of Paul Feeley. She later studied briefly with Hans Hofmann Frankenthaler’s professional exhibition career began in 1950, when Adolph Gottlieb selected her painting Beach (1950) for inclusion in the exhibition titled Fifteen Unknowns: Selected by Artists of the Kootz Gallery. Her first solo exhibition was presented in 1951, at New York’s Tibor de Nagy Gallery, and that year she was also included in the landmark exhibition 9th St. Exhibition of Paintings and Sculpture. In 1952 Frankenthaler created Mountains and Sea, a breakthrough painting of American abstraction for which she poured thinned paint directly onto raw, unprimed canvas laid on the studio floor, working from all sides to create floating fields of translucent color. Mountains and Sea was immediately influential for the artists who formed the Color Field school of painting, notable among them Morris Louis and Kenneth Noland. As early as 1959, Frankenthaler began to be a regular presence in major international exhibitions. She won first prize at the Premiere Biennale de Paris that year, and in 1966 she represented the United States in the 33rd Venice Biennale, alongside Ellsworth Kelly, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jules Olitski. She had her first major museum exhibition in 1960, at New York’s Jewish Museum, and her second, in 1969, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, followed by an international tour. Frankenthaler experimented tirelessly throughout her long career. In addition to producing unique paintings on canvas and paper, she worked in a wide range of media, including ceramics, sculpture, tapestry, and especially printmaking. Hers was a significant voice in the mid-century “print renaissance” among American abstract painters, and she is particularly renowned for her woodcuts. She continued working productively through the opening years of this century. Frankenthaler’s distinguished, prolific career has been the subject of numerous monographic museum exhibitions. The Jewish Museum and Whitney Museum shows were succeeded by a major retrospective initiated by the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth that traveled to The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Detroit Institute of Arts, MI (1989); and those devoted to works on paper and prints organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (1993), among others. Select recent important exhibitions have included Painted on 21st Street: Helen Frankenthaler from 1950 to 1959 (Gagosian, NY, 2013); Making Painting: Helen Frankenthaler and JMW Turner (Turner Contemporary, Margate, UK, 2014); Giving Up One’s Mark: Helen Frankenthaler in the 1960s and 1970s (Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY, 2014–15); Pretty Raw: After and Around Helen Frankenthaler (Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, 2015); As in Nature: Helen Frankenthaler, Paintings and No Rules: Helen Frankenthaler Woodcuts...

Ouroboros
Located in Toronto, Ontario
In 1967, General Idea was founded in Toronto by AA Bronson (b. 1946), Felix Partz (1945-1994), and Jorge Zontal (1944-1994). Over the course of 25 years, they made a significant contribution to postmodern and conceptual art in Canada and beyond. General Idea was both prolific and multi-disciplinary long before it became de rigueur. Together, they worked across photography, sculpture, painting, mail art, video, installation, multiples, and performance. The group also made a significant number of unconventional editioned works and was inspired by the idea of the anti-art object. Thematic continuity was a key element in General Idea's work. Early on they introduced talismans or logos that they would revisit and re-envision, including skulls, ziggurats, and poodles. They were particularly interested in (European) crests used for centuries to represent a city, district, or even a creative or professional guild. General Idea both appropriated and reinterpreted existing crests (often by replacing a lion with a poodle) as well as creating crests that were entirely of their own imagination. Between 1988 and 1989, General Idea created 8 chenille crests with some of their most iconic motifs. These crests recalled their traditional European antecedents and the aesthetics of high-school sports teams and varsity jackets. "Ouroboros" features General Idea's most famous mascot, the poodle, who mimics the lion's pose often seen in traditional European iconography. Entangled in the twists and curls of its tail, the poodle appears to be consuming the tip of it, embodying the full 'ouroboros' or circle of life. Completed in a menacing palette of black, forest green, and electric red, this design is a classic General Idea; subversive, zany, and mischievous. While these crests were intended to be an unlimited edition, according to the General Idea Editions catalog raisonné, less than 100...

When Fur Flies
Located in Toronto, Ontario
In 1967, General Idea was founded in Toronto by AA Bronson (b. 1946), Felix Partz (1945-1994), and Jorge Zontal (1944-1994). Over the course of 25 years, they made a significant contribution to postmodern and conceptual art in Canada and beyond. General Idea was both prolific and multi-disciplinary long before it became de rigueur. Together, they worked across photography, sculpture, painting, mail art, video, installation, multiples, and performance. The group also made a significant number of unconventional editioned works and were inspired by the idea of the anti-art object. "When the Fur Flies" is the most colorful and curious example from the series. A pink poodle, which appears almost as a curly abstraction, mimics the lion's pose often seen in traditional European iconography. Behind the famous General Idea mascot are stylized three yellow mushroom clouds. This design is a classic General Idea; subversive, zany, queer, and mischievous. While these crests were intended to be an unlimited edition, according to the General Idea Editions catalog raisonné, less than 100...
