Frédéric Blaimont
Les complices

2021

About the Item

Frédéric Blaimont is a witness of his time. A French painter, he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and at the École d'Art Graphique (Kunstgewerbeschule) in Basel, Switzerland in the early 1970s. He fled the student revolution of 1968 that was raging in Paris and to which he did not take sides because he was not politicized and only wanted to paint. Since he was 15 years old, he painted characters that are today the touch of his incomparable style. He worked for 30 years in advertising before devoting himself exclusively to his painting. He says he encountered a dilemma between advertising and painting, which are completely different disciplines and have distinct criteria. "Les complices" (The accomplices) seems to be a work representative of this dilemma between perfection and freedom of interpretation. He plays with the codes and aspects to which he should or should not adapt. He fills in or traces silhouettes with deconstructed and/or abusive proportions and chooses a mischievous title that immediately throws us into an established context. What one notices at first glance when discovering Frederic Blaimont's painting is the banality of his subjects. He likes the flaws and imperfections in people, which makes them sympathetic, authentic and endearing. Something unusual happens, the loneliness of the characters is particularly present but also complicit in the staging. His painting is a mixture of benevolence and malice. He shows us characters sometimes unpleasant, with gentleness and attention but always with an unstoppable technique and demonstrating his talent. A man and woman that he has fun to freeze in his paintings with eccentric and accurate colors. Frédéric Blaimont is a complete artist who is part of the New Art movement. Black American box frame.

In "Backyard," the central figure—a woman—commands attention against a backdrop of natural beauty. She stands in her own space, seemingly lost in thought, creating an atmosphere of both stillness and introspection. Adetayo's portrayal of this woman invites viewers to consider the emotions and thoughts that might be coursing through her mind. Is she reflecting on memories? Contemplating her place in the world? The interpretation becomes a personal journey for each observer. The landscape that envelops the woman is not just a passive backdrop but a powerful metaphor. Just as the external world shapes our internal experiences, the landscape symbolizes the myriad influences that contribute to one's sense of self. The woman's connection to the environment around her mirrors the intricate relationship between identity and surroundings. The notion of a "backyard" often evokes a sense of familiarity and intimacy. It is a space that is uniquely personal, and this artwork invites us to ponder what this personal space means for the woman depicted. In much the same way, we are all shaped by our own "backyards"—our histories, cultures, and experiences that come together to form our individual identities. The tranquility of the artwork encourages viewers to embrace the beauty of stillness and contemplation. In a world that often moves at breakneck speed, "Backyard" reminds us of the value of taking a moment to disconnect, reflect, and connect with our own thoughts and emotions. The woman's posture, relaxed and poised, suggests that she is attuned to this moment of quiet introspection. Adetayo's choice to depict a woman adds an additional layer of significance. Historically, women have been portrayed as subjects of scrutiny and objectification, often with their thoughts and emotions overlooked. "Backyard" challenges this norm by presenting a woman as the focal point of a scene that radiates depth and complexity. While "Backyard" is a singular artwork with a specific subject, its themes resonate universally. Regardless of gender or background, the artwork invites viewers to reflect on their own personal landscapes, the spaces they occupy, and the introspective moments that shape their lives. Adetayo's ability to capture such universal themes while maintaining a unique and personal touch is a testament to the power of art to bridge gaps and foster connections across diverse audiences. • To The Wonders
    Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Adetayo's "To The Wonders" is a symphony of colors that immediately draws the eye and engages the senses. The artist masterfully employs a kaleidoscope of hues, from deep, rich purples and reds to bright, vivacious yellows and greens. These colors blend harmoniously, creating a vibrant tapestry that envelops the viewer and sets a joyful and celebratory tone. At the center of the artwork, we find a woman elegantly seated, her posture exuding confidence and grace. Her face is illuminated, and her eyes are partly closed with a sense of merriment and anticipation. In her hand, she holds a wine glass, gracefully raised in a toast, as if inviting us to partake in a moment of celebration and reflection. The wine glass in the woman's hand is a focal point of the artwork. It glistens with the play of light and shadow, almost inviting the viewer to join in the toast. Wine, often associated with conviviality and communion, becomes a symbol of the simple joys and pleasures that life has to offer. Adetayo's meticulous attention to detail in rendering the glass reflects his commitment to capturing life's fleeting moments in all their brilliance. "To The Wonders" is more than just a representation of a woman raising a glass; it is an ode to the wonders of life itself. It encourages us to pause, savor the present, and find beauty in the everyday moments that often go unnoticed. Adetayo's work is a reminder that life is worth celebrating, whether it's a personal achievement, a gathering with loved ones, or the simple act of raising a glass to a new day. Adetayo's artwork also prompts us to consider the deeper layers of human existence. Beneath the surface celebration, there may be an underlying message about the importance of cherishing the beauty of diversity and the wonders that come from sharing our lives with others. The woman in "To The Wonders" appears to be inviting us not only to celebrate but also to embrace the interconnectedness of humanity. In "To The Wonders," Adeniyi Joshua Adetayo...
