About the Item
This modernist expressionist oil on canvas painting is probably American and is dated 1981. It is signed by the artist John Kaufman on the back side only. The scene is a mountainous valley that could very well be the Rockies. Kaufman's work is formed by merging diagonal lines and shapes that seem to merge just to the right of center. These lines create a perspective that leads the viewers eye down the slopes and to a lined grouping of trees. It is clearly an abstract view and his choice of bold and bright colors enhances the affect. The painting has a lot of energy and is quite a pop of color as well.
The actual painting measures 16 1/2" x 20" and is in very good condition with no issues to report. It has a modern curved painted wood frame that brings it out from the wall, creating a greater sense of depth for the entirety. It is not signed on the front, but on the reverse side, as previously mentioned.
