About the Item
This one-of-a-kind darkroom print - from my "The Many Rings of Saturn" series - was made with ice, sand, flowers, and more - and is actually what I refer to as an "ice-rubbing photogram." I actually made this print, as well as the bulk of the series during a virtual residency for Frames Magazine - which I shot via Zoom, out of my home darkroom.
I think of my cameraless photographs more in terms of printmaking and sculpture, as I literally build my photographs from scratch, by placing (or rubbing) materials directly onto the paper, and exposing them with handheld light sources.
My experimental work was born out of an unfinished darkroom during the height of covid, and has since become an additional specialty of mine. I not only teach my processes, but have received quite a few awards for these cameraless prints.
[Given that I identify as a maker of "spiritual landscapes" that applies to both my film-based work, as well as my unique alternative process photographs.]
