About the Item
"Rough Waters (aka Don't Look Down)" - Unique silver gelatin print (mixed process photogram). Made with ice, flowers, sand, glitter, and more. BRAND NEW, printed on Fomatone MG 133, a beautiful, slightly textured chamois paper, in April 2023. "Winds of Change" (series). 11 x 14.”
All of my photographs are essentially subconscious self-portrait; the
more I print, the more I start to see the part of me that was unconsciously exposed, and that revelation is largely what my work is about. [In the case of my photograms, image titles are based on what I see in the print.]
I began making cameraless photographs in 2020, due to having an unfinished darkroom at the time of the shutdown. "Winds of Change" is my 6th new alt process series since then [I also teach my processes and have received quite a few awards for my covid-born photograms.]
Pre-covid, I was primarily a maker of spiritual landscapes; Over the past few years, my self-invented processes have morphed so much, that I literally bring the landscape (or at least organic materials) into my darkroom. Thus, the photograms have morphed from abstract equivalent images to alternative process landscape photographs.
Further, I think of my photograms more in terms of sculpture and/or printmaking as I work my materials a bit between (and sometimes during) multiple exposures. And have also created some processes that were inspired by intaglio. [the processes aren't always kind to the paper, but tend to leave some really interesting marks behind.]
All of my photograms are made without the use of an enlarger. Each print is one-of-a-kind as the process CANNOT BE DUPLICATED, so once this black-and-white print sells, that's it, it's GONE...
**Please note that the scanner had a bit of trouble reading this textured paper; the tones of the highlights (light areas) are much whiter than they appear.**
